English Documents relating to Ballingham
Before the dissolution of the monasteries Ballingham had been a manor of the Benedictine Priory of St Guthlac in Hereford.
A page of the document we were transcribing. These are the rentals of Ballingham manor due to John ap Rees in 1541.
Rees (or Price or Preece) had acquired St Guthlac and its property at the dissolution. The name Balyngeham is top left.
'Item of John Williams and Johan his wife for one meadow called Biblet containing by estimation iii acres....'
John Williams had been taxed on land worth £40 in 1523.
